Freddie's Story: Freddie was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Hampshire council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Freddie is now neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Freddie came in to our Rescue Centre nr Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers in particular. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Freddie's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal an evolving picture and positive skills as they build trust.

Original referral information: Lynne, You have kindly assisted us in the past with some of our strays and we currently have 2 that we are struggling to place.

Freddie a large Mastiff cross (not an XL) and whilst he is a nice dog and is good natured, he has been taught to play tug of war with leads and tree branches so needs someone willing to put some time in. If we can’t find somewhere soon, we may have to make a difficult decision.

You don't have to spend too much time with Freddie to start to get an understanding of what he is about. Lynne and one of the volunteers brought him out, so I had the luxury of being able to observe. While we get to know him, he will get the support of two walkers to help him relax and settle. He is inexperienced and unsure what is expected of him. Yes he does jump up and grab the leads but he can be distracted and once walking he was a good boy. He did pull initially but then started to settle. He loves people and is very friendly and did start to really engage with me. (I had the treats which helped!) I felt, even in the short time I spent with him, that with the right support, he will flourish. It will also help him to have social walks with other dogs, as they will teach him more than we can.

Freddie a a little taller than a Staffie. He is very welcoming and friendly and shows his delight when you enter his kennel. Keeping his energy calm and under his control he leads out of the kennel complex and can spill his excitement at that stage. It is very early days and he can regain his focus and begin his walk: His walkers hold his leads apart and lead him into his journey. As gifted with dogs, you can see him physically shake off his aurora of energy and then settle down on his walk.

We are witnessing Freddie at the front of his rescue journey. His Rehab. problem will equip him and his brain will learn about the joy of appreciating what his environment can offer to him. It really doesn't take long for him to emerge from his sley-driver mode into his more relaxed walking mode. We acknowledges his walker and will seek affection.

With regular outings Freddie will enjoy and hopefully learn to dis-inhibit his overspill of energy which currently is the dominant mode of operandum to anchor his joy. He will become multi-facited and take command of his walks in understanding what they offer in lure to his instincts.

I had the absolute pleasure of walking Freddie with Lynne today.
He is such a friendly boy. We had some initial lead grabbing but that subsided fairly quickly and then he walked really nicely up the lane. He leant in to me and I fussed him which he enjoyed but it did get him excited and we had a brief lead grabbing.
Back in the kennel and leads off I could fuss him and no over excitement. He really does appear to have a beautiful soul, just wanting to be loved

Freddie is such a loving boy

Me and Georgie went in his kennel for a cuddle and he loved it! Very typical staffy and just wanted some loving! And cleaned my ears very well..

We took him and we found he would only lead grab when we stood for too long. But was very easily corrected!

He’s a lovely boy! Looking forward to lots more walks!

We had the pleasure of meeting Freddie today! He shows a lot of typical Staffy-ness, and is friendly with a playful nature.
He is very forward-focused on his walks, but was unbothered by the dogs and runners that we passed.
He needs guidance and gentle encouragement to relax into his walks, slow down and enjoy!
We look forward to spending more time with him and helping him be his wonderful self!!

Freddie is incredibly handsome and is a very friendly affectionate boy.
I haven't seen him since he first came in but had the pleasure of walking beside him and Amy yesterday.
What a difference 2 weeks make!. We walked along the road to the park and back. Freddie was so well behaved.
Not once did he grab or attempt to grab a lead on the whole outing and he is totally unphased by the traffic.
On our way back we met some other walkers who were just leaving and he greeted them like long lost friends. We stood and chatted and then carried on our way back to kennels.
Freddie will make someone very happy

Georgie and I walked Freddie today, he is still very high energy in his kennel and pulls towards dogs but with no aggression at all, when barked at he ignored the barking dog to carry on sniffing and walking. We had no lead grabbing at all today and when we left the other dogs behind he settled down very well and we had a peaceful walk together. He is a very sweet dog who just needs time, love and safety to become a lovely family pet.

I walked Freddie again today. What a lovely, friendly boy. He took some treats, we clipped on the leads and then we had a lovely walk. Freddie is very eager, out in front,pulling a little, on a mission. He stops occasionally for a sniff, or wee, but generally sets a very good pace. He is non reactive, and a pleasure to walk. Freddie really likes to be out and about, with a little TLC thrown in.

Freddie is NOT a fan of the rain.. He was initially excited to go for his walk, until he got to the end of his covered kennel where the rain was heavy.
There was a lot of encouragement on our part, and he spent the entire walk as close to me as possible, I think in the hope my coat would also cover him
