Rocco's Story: Rocco was passed to another Rescue and he went to 2 homes who didn't appreciate his terrier gifts! This Rescue asked us to help. Patterdales can be an education for the uninitiated. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Rocco is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Rocco is in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and sadly due to unprecedented interest, we will only be able to contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum Adoption Donation is £250 (£400 for pup under 1 yr old). This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Rocco's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information: Hi Lynne,

I hope you don't mind our reaching out. We are urgently looking for a Rescue place for a scared young Patterdale boy who came into our rescue a few weeks ago. He went into a trial adoption place where he lasted 2 weeks before they decided he was too much for them. He then moved to a different family who gave up after 48 hours and so we've had to place him in boarding kennels as we have no suitable foster homes available due to holidays etc. We know that at present we don't have what he needs. He was seen by a behaviourist just this weekend who isn't seeing aggression just a confused and scared dog and people who expect too much too soon.

If you do feel you'd be in a position to offer any assistance we could obviously provide lots more info. We reached out knowing you guys are extremely experienced with the breed.

We are West Yorkshire based by the way. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards C (Another Rescue)

Rocco came into Rescue on the 21st August 2021

On Monday I met gorgeous little Rocco for the first time. He was quite nervous and unsure when I entered his kennel, and so I didn’t rush him putting his leads on. His harness needed a slight adjustment and so whilst Anne distracted him with some treats I sorted his harness, and attached his collar lead and off we went!

Once we were out of the kennel, he really came out of himself and was super keen for his walk! His confidence and trust built up very quickly.

He was good when we passed little Eddie (Jack Russell) who was also out on a walk, and when I stopped at my car to get a drink, he waited patiently.

Rocco is gentle taking treats, and he also knows ‘sit’ and ‘paw’. He loved being out exploring and also showed some playfulness ☺️ I really enjoyed spending time with this sweet boy and it was lovely to see him overcome his initial nervousness so quickly.

I met Rocco for the 1st time yesterday and what a pleasure it was. He is a bundle of friendliness and great fun to walk, pulls a bit occasionally but this is just his enthusiasm and as he is not very big easy to handle. Will definitely walk him again but I am sure he will find his forever home soon, who could resist this gorgeous boy.

Pleasure to walk Rocco as always today ❤️
For some reason whenever I walk him we always come across deer running through the woods 🤷🏻‍♀️ And He always makes me smile as he stands up on his back legs in silence watching their every step until they are no longer in view.
Today we had a nice dip in the stream followed by lots of rolls in the grass which he seems to love doing! And then I always finish his walks with some strokes which he trots over and accepts no problem.
Such a cute little lad, Hopefully you find your forever home soon.

I took Rocco for a walk yesterday and what a loving and smart Patterdale he is! He approached me when I went inside his kennel and ate the treats I handed to him. I clicked my leads on without using food for distraction and we left the kennel block without any issues. Rocco was alert and very aware of his surroundings,  we caught sight of a deer and her baby in the woods behind the poet's hut and with Rocco leading, we took the circular path behind the hut going round at least 3 times trying to get more sightings of the deers. We stopped to say hello to Diane who was having quality time with Wilson. We took the dogs on the driving lane, Rocco and Wilson walking calmly side by side,  touching noses at one point, it was so lovely to watch. Rocco loves belly rubs and strokes. Rocco reacted to the dogs in the kennel as we walked past the main kennel block at the end of our walk and we had to go the other way instead. This time, Rocco was relatively calm as we passed the dogs in their kennels.

Ben and Mundy and Ben's mum (?Doreen) travelled from York to come to offer a Rescue Patterdale a stable home.

Rocco won the day and he will have a wonderful life and be meeting Gracie and Mason grown children with the next few hours. Family complete again! Nic and Jan will share all

ben mundy & doreen took the long drive from york to pick out one of our top patties and rocco & rolo both fitted the bill but rocco shaded it and in the end a visit to the paddock confirmed just what a topdog rocco is and he was whisked away to become a yorkshire terrier - be happy rocco

We have arrived home after long journey back. Rocco was great in the car. He is just settling in but already seems at home in his basket. 😊💕
