Dexter's Story: We were asked to help rehome Dexter, who was kept in private kennels in the Midlands that were closing down. He was supported by the public who have been following him and hoping he would be rehomed. Rescue Remedies offered a rescue place saving his life. Dexter is neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated. Dexter was in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Original Referral information:
Hi Lynne, mega urgent Dexter needs an emergency Rescue place as the kennels he is in is closing today. Anyway you can help please... DEXTER is our stunning 9 year old SBT. He is a really lovely boy, typical of the breed that he is very friendly with people. Dexter is a nice boy and really shouldn’t be in Kennels at his age. He would be an amazing addition to a Home as he is a wonderful natured dog. Dexter hasn’t had much socialisation with dogs and on his dog test he proved he can walk alongside them after positive slow introductions but he is definitely best placed as an only dog. Dexter is not tested with cats. Cx

I was lucky to have Dexter as my first walk of the day. He was very pleased to meet me, very friendly and happy to be out. We had a good walk, passed Collette and David (dog), they were fine passing and we stopped to speak until David barked at Dexter who gave a quick bark back,. We didn't meet anyone else on our walk but had a lovely cuddle on returning to the kennel so he seems a really friendly, loving little lad love4.gif
Can't wait to meet him again!

Dexter was keen to get out of his kennel and have a walk today. He mouthed his lead a bit coming out but then stopped. He is a very friendly boy and very active and agile for his years. He does pull a bit but nothing you can't manage, although he does like to chase a squirrel. We passed a few dogs and Dexter was fine, I just kept him walking. The first dogs we met, he tried to grab his lead again, so I suppose he was feeling a bit stressed, but soon stopped and this never happened again. We then went to the paddock where Dexter enjoyed a good run around and played with the balls. I always get to know a dog better in the paddock, where they are free to do their own thing and interact with me how they want to. I must say that Dexter really is a lovely boy, he has a nice feel to him and is good company. He wasn't really cuddly but did come over for a few back scratches and to show me his football. At one point, a walker went last the paddock with another dog, close to the fence. Dexter ran over to say hello then ambled off again, so no bad reaction. Dexter sits nicely and takes treats gently.

Walked Dexter for the first time today and found him a nice friendly boy. He is a bit dog reactive around the kennels but once out seemed fine passing other dogs albeit at a distance. He really enjoyed chasing a ball in the paddock prior to our walk and seems to have settled in well he was certainly interested in his surroundings and there was lots of tail wagging when he met new people.

Walked Dexter again yesterday and although quite lead grabby in his kennel is absolutely fine once you get him out and away from the kennels. He is very friendly and enjoys his walks.

Geoff walked Dexter today and said what a gorgeous boy he is. Very excited about getting harnessed up and leaving the kennels which made it a little challengng as there was a lot of bouncing going on, but once out he settled really quickly and walked beautifully. They met several dogs on their walk and Dexter was interested in a very friendly way, and particularly wanted to play with a couple of labs. He also loves people and Geoff said they bonded very quickly. Gorgeous boy.

Walked Dexter today. What a laugh getting him out of his kennel with all his wriggling and excitement - jumper off - harness on (turned out to be too big!) - harness off - right harness on - here we go! 0028.gif lovely walk and lovely boy.

I walked the lovely Dexter for the first time today. What a friendly boy he is. He wasn't too bad when clipping his leads on, I made sure he couldn't see the end that could be grabbed so all was easy, he did try to grab the chain once on the way out but soon was concentrating on his walk. He walks at a good pace without pulling. He did not react to the other dogs barking when getting him out and in the kennel block. I look forward to walking Dexter again although I really do hope he finds his forever home very soon. love4.gif

I took Dexter out again this afternoon, he was excited to be going out. We did pass another dog which started barking, this made Dexter a little agitated as he tried to grab the leads but soon settled again and walked nicely for the rest of the time we were out. Dexter enjoyed his sausage treats when we got back to his kennel. He is such a lovely boy. :smiley-bounce016.gi:
