Joyce Shar pei x Staffie Dofb ?2010 - 2018

Post by xxlynne »

Joyce10.jpg
Joyce came to us in June with failing health She was spayed tumours removed and enjoyed several months of Summer walks and cuddles in her kennel. Her health took a turn for the worse and our vet diagnosed a Brain tumour. John and Sylvie agreed to take her for possibly end of life care. Joyce had the habit of rallying and for several weeks she perked up and enjoyed life on the south coast. John and Sylvie even introduced her to Shadow and she share company with him though she slept a lot. This week was a real turning point for Joyce and all systems started to close down. Today 24th December we all said goodbye to Joyce ...we loved knowing sweet Joyce

Joyce's Story: Joyce was found stray/abandoned and unclaimed within a council pound. Joyce has been repeatedly bred from in her past. Her health has deteriorated in kennels, so she came to us as an emergency. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Joyce is now neutered, chipped and vaccinated. Joyce passed her cat test. Joyce was in Foster in New Romney. She likely has a brain tumour, so John and Sylvie will give her all the care she needs over the coming months.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Joyce's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information:
10.06.18 Lynne as always always needy dogs.
8 year old Joyce has lots of lumps and fatty bumps. Failing in kennels - kennel staff are very concerned ref her well being.
She has been bred from repeatedly. Unknown on other dogs but did have a fight with one when straying (to be expected). Beautiful girl who needs some happiness - should come with donation.
Lynne I know always you are full but you are so incredible with dogs such as these.
Can you possibly help and if so-how long as we may be able to keep them safe. Cx

Joyce had a long journey today to come into our care. She arrived and we discovered she is Shar pei x Staffie and has the more aloof character where when you gain a lick you cherish it!

We walked Joyce today on a joint walk with lovely Skye.

Joyce is a really warm girl. I note that Lynne observed her to be aloof, well she obviously feels comfortable and loved in the warmth of our rescue as she seems to have settled in well overnight! Lynne, your amazing warm welcome has done the trick because I definitely wasn’t greeted at the kennel door by anyone aloof, in fact, Joyce was all over me like a rash love4.gif

She was confident and very happy to have her harness put on and we were ready for our walk. Joyce is a really cute mixture of breeds. She has a gorgeous freckley white face and a long schnozz.
She has a really cute group of brindle markings on her bum. A bit like a cow.

She was very happy in the company of Skye and seems very confident around other dogs. She felt really mature to me, well balanced, and given that I think we gave her her first walk around her new surroundings, she took it all in her stride. No fear, no excessive looking around, just happy to trot along at a really comfy pace with very relaxed body language.
Joyce is a real star and a lovely warm girl. Can’t wait to see her again.

I had the pleasure to meet Joyce today. No problem to put on her harness and get going. She was keen to get out and about. I took her to the paddock. She was happiest just pottering around the perimeter, sniffing and marking. She would follow me if I encouraged her and when I sat down she came over for a cuddle a couple of times but she seemed happier left alone to potter. We then had a wander around the wood and she seemed much happier on a walk rather than in the paddock.
Her photos don't do her justice. (note to self - must try harder!) I will take more photos when she has had more time to settle and get to know me.

Beautiful Joyce has come to stay for the weekend to aid her recovery from her spay and several lumps and bumps removals - bless her xxx

She’s a real sweetie and has enjoyed exploring my house and garden, enjoyed her dinner, ate it in stages nice and slow, no bother at all with me around her bowl.

Here’s a few pics, many more to come as we enjoy the weekend together xxx

A good night for Joyce with a few moments awake, we popped out to the garden very early and came back to bed for more snoozing :D and sweet gentle kisses as I rose this morning, Joyce has the softest long muzzle and is very tolerant of my wish to give her kisses back xxx love4.gif

She is definitely feeling more with it today after her anesthetic yesterday and she has LOVED having the conservatory doors open to come and go from the garden as she pleases thumbs.gif Managed more snoozing too which is what a warm day like today with tennis on the tele needs !!!

We’ve just got back from a short evening walk, Joyce clearly loves her walks, so excited when the harness came out :D
We were stopped by a young couple proclaiming her the cutest staffie ever and just wanted to pet her thumbs.gif
Joyce took it all in her stride, clearly used to such flattery xxx
It was a lovely moment and actually I think she may have had even more of a spring in her step as we left them love4.gif

Joyce is such a sweetheart, gently affectionate in the most wonderful way love4.gif

Yesterday we had a lovely day potterig together in the house and garden and a walk in the evening cool. My neighbour was in her garden and no barking at all from Joycie, very good indeed; other dogs barking in the vicinity, no reaction or barking from Joycie thumbs.gif

Joycie is also an angel taking her post op tablets, quite big tablets but placed in a parcel of cheese and down the hatch in one !!! Very good girl Joyce angel13.gif]

Joycie was definitely feeling better as she sought to roll onto her back for tummy tickles sat next to me on the sofa love4.gif
