Zeus' Story: Zeus has moved 3 families since a puppy his 3rd family took him in having known him and knowing he was crated for long periods whilst owners at work. He has not been socialised with other dogs and will need to learn to settle. Zeus lost his 3rd family having got through a panel fence and in confusion ran at a passing dog. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Zeus will be neutered, chipped, and is fully vaccinated. Zeus was in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Zeus has been making friends with the kennel staff. I am told he was quite scared when he came in but he made friends with Paige who took him out for a couple of walks to help him explore his new surroundings and settle a little. Yesterday he also made friends with Anna (also kennel staff) Later on, having been bonding with him throughout the day by his kennel door, I also had the privilege of taking him out for a walk. He is quite a nervous boy, as you would expect from a young dog who has been through so much and now finds himself in kennels, but he wants to trust and was seeking reassurance from me. He is a bit all over the place not really knowing what to do with his nervous energy but after a little while he decided the safest thing to do was to walk very close to my leg for a bit of comfort. So he has won my heart and I am so looking forward to spending some more time with him.

Zeus is settling and making new friends. On Thursday he walked with Corrina and yesterday with Jan. Zeus seems to build bonds really quickly, he so wants to be friends. He is quite a needy boy and when he needs reassurance he jumps up to get your attention. He is a bright boy and as his confidence grows he is already learning to do this less and less. You can see in the video how he often looks up at Jan for reassurance but then he starts to settle. Out in more open spaces he seemed more confident and did not need to look up so often. He is the sweetest boy who just wants to be loved and feel secure, so he can relax, have fun and move forward into new adventures.

I met Zeus today. I entered his kennel and he seemed really pleased to see me. He stood up on his back legs for a cuddle and I clipped the leads on. We set off on a walk with Narla. Narla was following behind, keeping a distance from us and Zeus seemed quite happy. Narla caught up with us a little bit whilst Zeus was toileting and he did jump up excitedly but didn't grab leads or anything and was easily asked to walk on. He will benefit from getting used to being around dogs more.
Zeus does not pull on the lead and kept nuzzling in to my leg, like he had been trained to walk to heel by Barbara Woodhouse!
He is such a lovely, friendly boy who seems to love a bit of a fuss and some attention. I seem to have one every week but he is my new favourite! love4.gif

Zeus is a sweet, unassuming young boy. He was easy to get out of his kennel - just very pleased to be going for a walk. He has settled more since I walked him on Thursday and was listening and responding today. He does jump up (nicely) for reassurance but also listened when I said uh uh, everything’s fine. We had a lovely, relaxed walk - I honestly did not want to put him back - he’s such a loving boy. Xx

Zeus is a beautiful, young, enthusiastic and, at the moment, desperate for affection, staffie. He is a joy to engage with and take for a walk. He has quite a light, higher pitched bark which he uses to engage your attention. When you go to his kennel and he realises you are taking him out his whole body wiggles with enthusiasm. He jumps up to ask for affection and responds very well to 'down little one'. I feel he has had some training to walk with his nose at your knee, because he does this a lot during his walk, breaking away occasionally to sniff or to pull enthusiastically ahead of you. Most of my walks with Zeus are on a loose lead with his little nose by my knee, he looks up frequently for reassurance, with occasional spurts of speed on his part to pull ahead, and occasional stops for sniffs. He will place his paws on my legs to ask for a cuddle, which I am happy to oblige with, and this reassurance of affection seems to give him courage to continue exploring his environment. Each time I have walked Zeus we have passed people in the woods which have made him anxious and he has been reluctant to pass them. This will improve as he gains confidence. He is a total joy, and I look forward to watching his development, unless of course, his perfect family find him quickly! love4.gif

I was greeted by a very happy and enthusiastic Zeus yesterday who wanted some cuddles and fussing before we got ready to go for our walk. Zeus passed the other dogs in the kennel block without responding to any of the noise they were making. Once out he jumped up for fussing but I said "off, it's walking now" and he totally understood and we went on our way. Initially he was jumping up quite a bit asking for fussing, each time I said "off" gently, and continued walking until he settled and then stopped and made a fuss of him, giving him cuddles, and we set off again for our walk with him perfectly happy because he had been given a little attention. In a very short while Zeus wasn't jumping up for attention but was walking with his nose either touch my hand, which I kept down by my side so he could reach it, or my knee as he walked. I stopped periodically and made a fuss of him, to pre-empt him jumping up and asking for it. Zeus is a very quick learner, once he is assured that you will make a fuss of him, he walks beautifully. I had a slack lead with this little dogs nose either touching my hand or my knee for the bulk of our walk. I then took him to the paddock, where he had a lovely mooch around and chased a ball or two, bringing them back to me and receiving praise and a hug for doing so. Zeus is a charming little boy, who is quick to understand what you want, and desperate to please. He was fine passing people today, he has already learned he doesn't need to worry about them, but a little anxious of other dogs and will bark when you are out walking, but it is not aggressive, it is much more anxiety tinged with curiosity, and he is happy to walk on when you ask him to. I am rapidly becoming very smitten with this little chap, I had some licks from him today, which made me very happy!

Zeus wasn’t keen on getting too close to other dogs so we chose a route that we had to ourselves and waited back if we saw another dog on our way through the woods - such a good boy and what a walker, by my side all the way :D

Met little Zeus for the first time today , he is so , so affectionate and as soon as I went in his kennel he just wanted cuddles and affection , so I kneeled on the floor and let him put his paws round my neck so he could he assured I was friendly , after much fussing , we went out for a walk , he was ....... ecstatic to be out !!!!!! He is only a young dog and was very bouncy but that’s understandable, we went for a lovely walk round the roads as I had read he isn’t a big fan of dogs at close quarters , we had lots of cuddles and I kept the treats for my initial meeting in the kennel and then after I put him back so he didn’t have any excuse to jump up on our walk , I just said ‘down’ when he did then praised him a lot when he walked on . A gorgeous , small , slight boy who would lift anyone’s spirits every day ! What a lovely , lovely chap ! XxXx
