Myles has come on in leaps and bounds in the few weeks he has been here. He has had regular visits to Mark in Westerham for antibiotics and advice and, indeed, he is still on medication and is bathed every other day with medicated shampoo. Most of the scabs have now come off and he has far fewer bald patches than when he arrived.
He is a wonderfully loving boy and sleeps with me on the settee in the annex with Shadow next to him on an armchair, but we still don't leave them together for any length of time....we hope they will be friends soon. When you go into his room he welcomes you with a wagging tail and stick to you like a limpet. His back legs cause him to have an unusual gait and, in all honesty, he's not keen on walking for more than about ten minutes.
Anyone looking for a friendly little boy who will be happy just staying by your side, with the occasional trip to the garden, then look no further than Myles.

In my last "post" I said that Myles spends quite a lot of the time with Shadow....he now spends all his time in the annex where he and Shadow are the best of friends. He is obviously very good when meeting dogs and he just loves welcoming new people into the rooms of the annex with Shadow in close order behind him with tails whirling around.
I guess there comes a time in the recovery process after the initial improvement which is easily identified, seems to come to a halt or, at least, slows down....we have got to that point. We continue to bathe him with Malaseb and give him his medication, but his sores and scabs seem to return for no reason whatsoever to replace those already removed. Fortunately, they don't appear to worry him, and so we persevere with the treatment.
He is the most affectionate little man and loves to be with somebody all the time....perhaps I should say that when he was in his own room he would whine or cry and we would go and sit with him, but now, sharing with Shadow, he is as quiet as a mouse!!!! Obviously likes company.
We love him and are sure anybody who adopts him will find him a great companion.

The vets down here have changed Myles' medication, thinking that the original medications had run their course, and already there has been a marked improvement in the bald parts on his back and around his back legs. He is obviously much more comfortable now and, although he cannot run around very far at all, he is beginning to try to play with Shadow and to "rag" one of those rope "tuggy" things.
It is a real joy to see how Myles has progressed in the time he has been here....anyone looking for a loving little lad who won't need too much exercise need look no further than this lad.

Myles is still with us in New Romney, but I believe it might not be for much longer....keep watching this space!!! He really is such a loving little lad and really does deserve his own comfy bed. He is off all medication now, apart from his baths with Malaseb and, as a result, the vets are now willing to start his vaccinations....he goes tomorrow afternoon for the first "jab".
I do believe most, but not all, of his bumps and scabs have disappeared or been removed but, because he is now not on antibiotics, his own immune system has kicked in and seems to be working....which is good news!
He continues to be very close to Shadow and you'll never see one without the other....he will be a great companion for any other older dog requiring a gentle and affectionate friend.

Myles finished the medication for his skin condition over about three weeks ago and so we took him for his first vaccination last week....the vet was not willing to vaccinate him all the time he was on antibiotics. He continues to receive Malaseb baths every other day.

Unfortunately, those lumpy bits and scabs began to reappear at the beginning of this week and so we took Myles back to the vet yesterday. Anthony, the vet, gave him a thorough investigation and suggested that the skin condition is an allergy, probably to something in the environment, and reintroduced the antibiotics and included a steroid to reduce any irritation Myles might have. The stiffness in Myles' joints was quite definitely due to arthritis and he has supplied us with Metacam to be applied once a day with his food....it doesn't seem to have improved the condition at the moment.

Myles is still the most affectionate little boy, loves to cuddle up to you on the settee....but has to be helped up and down as his back legs just aren't strong enough....and gets on wonderfully well with Shadow. He enjoys his meals and ten minute walk each morning.

Next Saturday, Myles meets Loki with his mummy and daddy from Worcester....watch this space!

Myles remains the most friendly dog you could die for and there is more good news as well....since the vet put him back onto antibiotics for his skin condition the lumpy bits have all but gone and the scabby things have disappeared completely. He does have a single steroid a day and this seems to have reduced the irritation Myles had previously so, all in all, a good day really....just waiting for the right home to come along to offer the lovely lad his own doggy bed.
