Buds' Story: Buds (and his then partner litter sister Nyla) were taken to the vet to be put to sleep, as they killed a cat who entered their garden. The vet assessed their temperaments as great, and got them signed over so they could find them a responsible Rescue place. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving their lives. Buds is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Buds was in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £200. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Buds' progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information:
13.07.18: We were emailed ..Good Morning
I am a vet nurse in Birmingham, we had 2 young Staffordshire bull terrier crosses booked in for euthanasia as they have killed a cat.
My senior vet refused to put them to sleep as they where otherwise healthy and happy. We have had them for 2 days and have not been able to place them. They have shown no aggression towards people or each other whilst been in our care. Is the anything you can do to help to prevent us from putting them to sleep.
Kind regards Mx

Geoff and I met newbies Buds and Nyla yesterday and took them for a walk. These two are beautiful looking dogs. They were both already harnessed up so after a little hand sniffing we went in to put their leads on. Buds is a big, steady, friendly placid boy. Nyla was so scared once I’d put the lead on her harness that she peed in fear and bolted into the other part of her kennel, we asked the wonderful kennel staff for some help and with lots of reassurance Nyla came out of her kennel and agreed to go for a walk with me and Buds and Geoff. She settled very quickly on her walk, looking to Buds for reassurance and after a very short space of time checking up with me for reassurance too. We all had a lovely walk with lots of stops for sniffs and a paddle in the stream. A gaggle of 5 or 6 teenagers with bikes caused Nyla some anxiety but we stepped well aside and a gravy bone biscuit made everything fine! I should emphasise that there was no growling or barking she just looked anxious again and obviously preferred to be out of the way to one side. Both Buds and Nyla walk beautifully on the lead with no pulling. When we got back they both went happily enough into their kennel but they didn't want us to leave them, so it was quite tricky getting out without them! Even the chicken chews were no competition for a bit more friendly fussing. I know they will settle, but it was very hard to walk away from them. Staffies are particularly people oriented and these two really wanted us to stay. Gorgeous pair.

I had the pleasure of another walk with Buds today. He posed beautifully for Sarah for his photo shoot and then showed her his love, cuddling up close and climbing onto her lap even though he didn't quite fit! He soon found her treat bag and took his treat politely. The off we ambled. He ambled along and we took it slowly as it was so hot. As we headed through the woods he started to get excited looking for squirrels. I think he remembered going that way from before and he had obviously encountered a squirrel. Once past that bit he went back to ambling. He is a lovely boy.
Bud jumped up and walked back and forth along this log like he was on a balance beam

I met Buds today and we had a walk with Anne and Nyla. Buds is laid back and people friendly. He's a bit of a lump and quite strong on a walk. He was inclined to jump up a little bit at first but soon stopped. I got the impression that he hasn't been lead walked a lot, but still, he wasn't a difficult walk. He did bark at other dogs we met and got himself a bit stressed, as did Nyla, maybe they wind each other up :icon_barking_dog-116.gif: nice friendly boy.

Geoff and I had a lovely walk with Buds and Nyla on Tuesday. Buds is quite a big boy, but so laid back and easy going. He us quite strong on the lead, loves to walk side by side with Nyla and likes to sniff where she has sniffed, and vice versa. They both took exception to a man blackberrying in the wood with his terrier, but it was just noise, there was absolutely no malice there at all, and they were both happy to be distracted by stepping off the path for a treat whilst he went by. Down at the stream Buds proved what a water baby he us and there was lots of praying which enabled Geoff and I to get their leads tangled up!

We decided they really needed some time in the paddock to play properly and were so glad that we gave them that time. They were a joy to watch, tugging on a football, and play wrestling and then Buds leaped in the paddling pool and rolled over on his back. They had such fun. These two are a lovely pair, and whilst I know Lynne is prepared to rehome them separately if anyone had the space and wanted an instant canine family who love each other and play well together, you have it with these two. They’re gorgeous.

Geoff and I walked Buds and Nyla yesterday, these are two really beautiful Staffies. Buds is quite a big boy, but so laid back and equable, a really lovely nature. He does pull a bit on the lead, but it’s enthusiasm to be out and about, and he is very obedient. I’m not sure I’ve ever met a dog who is quite such a water baby as Buds is.

We went down to the stream so they could splash around and I’m sure he would have gone swimming if the water had been deep enough and if Geoff had been prepared to let him! He ignored the cyclist that suddenly and silently appeared behind us and showed polite but distant interest in the baby in its buggy who passed us. Back in the paddock for a play we filled the paddling pool for him and he rolled around to achieve total submersion and then came and sat beside me for a cuddle, pressing lovingly into me!! Yep, got pretty wet too!! You’ve just got to love this boy. He then threw himself on his back so Geoff could tickle his tummy xxx

Geoff walked Buds whilst I walked Nyla today and they were very keen to get out. We started off like steam trains, pausing periodically for combined and separate sniffs at interesting places, and some nice grass chewing. When we got back to the paddock for a play Buds was so sad to find the paddling pool had a hole in the bottom and so no water to play with! He did try to get in the drinking bowl but that was never going to work! This gorgeous pair then had their usual play around the paddock and happily accepted their chicken chews when we took them back. Buds is a very handsome boy, he is strong, but very affectionate, and very laid back xxxx

Geoff walked Buds today whilst I walked Nyla. They were full of energy not having been for a walk yesterday, so we took them to the paddock first to let them rush around and let off some steam. Then we reattached leads and set off. Buds is a fabulous boy. He is a really good looking brindle staffie, very handsome and quite strong. He has a very laid back attitude and although he does bark at passing dogs there doesn’t seem to be any malice or aggression with him, it’s more curiosity and a ‘hey there I’m here’ sort of woof! Buds loves water, really loves water, so the stream is heaven and the water bowl in the paddock gets the paw as well as the tongue! He’s too boisterous I think for young children, but he’s a lovely good natured boy. Because Nyla was walking a little ahead sometimes Bud’s head was level with my knees and he kept leaning in for a cuddle!
