Cody's Story: Cody's family haven't got the circumstance or skills to manage a young exuberant bullbreed and need him gone as spending 12 hours a day in the kitchen ..and at night. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Cody is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Cody is in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.
• 2 years old going on 6 months, due to lack of experience
• Medium large and shy
• Unsocialised with other dogs...just beginning
• Learning to trust in a new setting
• Barks when scared
• Building friendships and self confidence

If interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and sadly due to unprecedented interest, we will only be able to contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £200. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Cody's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information: 6.10.20: Morning Lynne

Can you possibly help with a 2 year old Ambull x staffie

Needs some training as very boisterous. Adores people but not too keen on dogs or cats as never socialised. Locked in kitchen 12 hours a day with no walks at all. Jumps up and is mouthy but he's only a young dog. Needs leash training and is high alert outside as never gets walked. Needs a rescue who understands the breed and who can take him back to basics to learn how to behave .

This is a boy whose at risk for a free ads rehoming as owners need him gone! I know you have a waiting list but could you possibly help him ?

Many thanks Carolyn x

Cody arrived into kennels yesterday. Cody formed a close bond with his transporter and was walked around our woodlands and bought into his kennel. He was scared and closed down.

Today he continued to hide behind his bed and didn't respond to all manner of temptations. After work when the kennels we closed Ella and Paige stayed behind to give Cody space and time. He initially was refusing to budge. It took about 20 mins using determined encouragement to get him into his run knowing that once he had moved and explored, he will gradually do this of his own volition over the coming days. I filmed Cody as he reached the threshold of his run...

The commentary id from Yoda a Akita 3 kennels along!

A little more persuasive encouragement, involving heavy lifting! and Cody achieved "Over the Threshold!". With a frightened dog you can't sit and wait for hours for them to find the courage; you are usually being intimidating in the process. Nervous dogs need leadership....you have to involve yourself with trust and so demonstrate their fears have no foundation: Suddenly you are praising them for being a Big Brave Boy!

Cody then sat and clung to his kennel door but began to look around and take in his surroundings and was stroked and massaged him with speech and praise by Ella and Paige and the trust bond was developing...

Further on Cody is moving and enters the paddock.

I caught up with the trio 10 mins later. Cody was looking around and had jumped up for affection 3 times. He was also looking for an escape route out of the paddock! Was happy to go back in his kennels which was warm and welcoming. Tomorrow he will explore naturally, as this session has allayed his fears and he will meet more friends.

I went to sit with Cody in his kennel yesterday. He was initially very weary of me but as soon as Paige entered he became animated and affectionate with her. Encouraged by Paige's presence he then came over to me and gave me a sniff and a face lick. Paige went off to get on with her work and Cody decided I was OK and he was happy to have cuddles and a massage. After a few minutes he tried to plonk himself on my lap, pinning me into the corner of his kennel. 0002.gif] He clearly thinks he is a small lap dog, Small he is not!
Later on I went in again to spend some time with him. I got gentle face licks and he leant against me for cuddles. Paige and I then encourage him into the paddock. Still very worried with being outside he was not ready to pose for the camera but his progress is fantastic in just a few days. He was happy to take some treats from me too, which is also progress.
