William's Story: William was found abandoned and unclaimed within a Hampshire council pound. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. William is now neutered, chipped, and vaccinations are in progress. William was in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

William's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
Original Referral information: Message from Safe&Sound Poor William is a mastiff x staffy who was picked up by the dog warden anxious and with an injured paw. He’s only about a year old. The previous day he’d been posted about all over local social media by various people who’d spotted him, one of whom managed to contain him in her garden. His story seems to be that the owner had got William FreeToaGoodHome but he lived in a third floor flat and William was stressed and unsettled there, and the landlord said he couldn’t stay. It appears that the new owner may have just taken him outside and let him go.

His paw is badly injured and he’s had an operation on it today. The vet suggested to the dog warden that he was neutered too while under anaesthetic and her boss agreed. He’s back at the pound kennels now and is due a check up on Monday. He’s been fine with the dog warden but has been a bit stressed at kennels since his ops. He has seemed okay when seeing other dogs.

If you were able to help him, one of the kennel staff may be able to take him to Treetops Saturday.

Hoping you can help as we just can’t take him.

Kind regards Amanda S&S

I fell in love with William today whilst putting an additional dressing on his poorly paw (he'd pulled the one he arrived with off). He is stunning, sweet, affectionate and bright. He also appears to love other dogs and tried to kiss them all along the run despite them all shouting at him. He'll be an absolute smasher of a dog once treated well.

What a stunner. William is not only very handsome but he has such a lovely nature. Jim had already met him and came with me to get him out this morning. His bandage had come off his sore paw so we walked along the road to keep his foot nice and dry. I believe he was heading off the vets this afternoon for a new dressing. His paw is healing and it wasn't stopping him enjoying his walk this morning. For a large lad he is surprisingly gentle on the lead and we ambled down the lane, William very keen to have a proper sniff about.

William's foot is healing nicely and having met him last week, this morning I introduced him to Louise. We then headed off for a long walk, William walking with Louise and Frankie with me.
William proceeded to show us what a wonderful, calm temperament he has and what impeccable manners. He loves to make friends with everyone/creature he sees, especially people. He did very polite play bows to Frankie, but Frankie was too busy sniffing and getting on with his own walk, so William settled for walking with him, without any fuss. Indeed we passed dogs, people, horses and traffic and William took everything in his stride. Louise commented how beautifully he walks on the lead.

William was a perfectly behaved gentleman when I met him yesterday, happy to have his leads clipped on and came out his kennel with no fuss.

He needs road walks at the moment due to his poorly paw, but unfortunately he isn't really keen on cars and is a bit nervous as well. So instead we did a few laps up and down the lane, and he was much happier!

Even though he's a big boy, he doesn't pull on the lead. He likes to have a look at other dogs but doesn't show any reaction or make any noise, he's a good lad!
