So we collected Rexx today & he's now back in foster with myself (Marian), hubby (Des), our dog (Fergus) & our cat (Tulla).
Sadly he was a bit too much for his new older family.
They have a field at the back of the garden with horses & donkeys in & Rexx was a typical Collie and wanted to round them up. But when he then went indoors he obsessed about them & went window to window looking for them, which was too much for his new owners. He is also still quite agile & Collie bright, so was too fast for them.
They are very sad, as his happy personality & good manners had endeared himself to them. But they have done what is best for Rexx & themselves.
He was very excited to see us & be back with us. After throughly checking nothing had changed in the garden, he has crashed out on the spare bed upstairs.
This boy does love his creature comforts! We'll let him settle in again (don't think that will take long) & let you know how he gets along. thumbs.gif

Rexx thinks he had a little holiday & with his eyes has tried to tell us all about the exciting horses & donkeys he saw & the lovely couple that treated him so kindly on his trip! His eyes are soo expresive, it's the eyebrows we think!
He has really come out of his shell & been playing with an old football in the garden today, he's a typical Collie, doesn't know when to stop, so you have to take the ball away & get him back in for a break. He doesn't know he's 8! But he's a very happy boy & he's also a great guard dog - his bark, which we rarely hear, is a lovely deep bark - it would scare any would be burglars away! But it's soon followed by lots of tail wagging & wanting to say 'Hello'.
We seperate Rexx & Fergus when eating, but this is natural, so they can relax when eating without feeling any unecessary competition. But apart from food they get along very well & steal each other's toys, when the other isn't looking 0002.gif]
Rexx is very keen to try & see our cat - but our cat is staying out of his way! Perhaps with time they will come around but for now we're keeping them apart, with our cat using a window, rather than the cat flap to come & go by (as Rexx is guarding the cat flap).

Today we introduced Rexx to our cat Tulla. We had Rexx on lead, he was very interested but didn't lunge or snap at him. So for a 1st proper meet this shows he has the potential to learn. Will keep doing this slowly for as long as he's with us. But there's hope that he could live with a cat given patience.
Rexx is very responsive to commands & wants to please.

Rexx is doing so well!!
He loves his walks!! 😉 A 15 minute street walk & maximum 40 mins afternoon walk is all Rexx needs, along with a bit of ball play if he feels like it
Rexx has a good nose on him & loves to follow the different scents through the woods.
If he spots a squirrel he wants to chase it.. but obviously he's on lead so can't 😥 he doesn't pull hard but does his best meercat impression standing on his hind legs to see where it goes.

As you can see Rexx's coat is lovely & shiny. He does enjoy a good brushing!

Today Rexx met our neighbours Golden Lab bitch, Ellie. He took a real shine to her & kept trying to get her to play.
He's a bit awkward as he sort of gently head butt her legs to get her attention then tried to play chase. Bless him, she's a gentle girl & enjoyed the attention from him.
He definitely prefered her to my dog. love4.gif But my boy wasn't worried by that. :biggrin.gif:

So as Rexx is starting to relax, we are finding out more about him.
He's got great manners, he listens when out on lead walks & sits nicely by the kerb when asked. He's house trained, knows all the usual commands & loves a stroke & brush.
He does love to meet other dogs but can be boisterous, so needs a person in control to help him calm.
Rexx is a typical Collie, so previous knowledge of the breed will definitely help him & you. He's got a keen herding instinct so we don't think small children are for him.
He does appreciate a strong, kind leader & listens well, as he really wants to please.
Rexx does perfer Bitches to Males but if you know Collies, you know that older collies often take a while to get to know another dog, so need time, patience & space to do so.
If you are keen for cuddles, good manners, ball play & that look of devotion, he will show you, then Rexx is the boy for you!

Rexx now knows one of our walks we go on, that we get to by car. He gets chatty on the way there, with his tail going mad with excitement! He's met most dogs well, the only ones that he's not been happy with have been over familiar large males...but then again who would be!
Rexx accidentally came face to face with our cat the other day, luckily our cat didn't run & a firm 'Leave Him' Rexx backed off & we followed up with much praise for doing so! He did then sit the other side of the stair gate watching for him. But we easily distracted him by getting him in the garden to play.
Rexx does like a cuddle on the sofa but also likes his own space so goes off to either another sofa or the floor. But the time he's spending for sofa cuddles is increasing!
