Poppy's Story: Poppy came into care from a household with 2 of her puppies and was surrendered. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving her life. Poppy is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Poppy is in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting her new family.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Poppy greeted me with a wiggle and cuddle when I entered her kennel. She was keen to get out for a walk. Initially she was quite strong on the lead but this was pure excitement and she soon settled to walking nicely on the lead. She was such a good girl while we did her photoshoot, happily accepting cuddles and back scratches from Claire.

Poppy is a real gem!

I walked her at the weekend and she is so sweet natured. She was very happy for me to take off her buster collar (cone) from her head and then put it back at the end of the walk. She was generally very happy to be touched, stroked and cuddled. Very people friendly.

She also has an unusually lovely thick coat. Not seen that in previous sharpeis. In fact, from the back she looks like the grey (blue?) cats from the Sheba adverts. So beautiful. Her sweet face is adorable too.

She was great with other dogs and enjoyed a sharpei themed walk with lovely Hooch. Easy breezy girl.

I was very happy to spend time with her and would love to walk her again. But I expect her to be homed very quickly as she seems like she has been someone’s loved pet and is very well mannered.

Poppy is recovering so well from her eye operation, she was no longer needing to wear the cone today when I went to get her out. I got the usual happy wriggly greeting and she really is not bother to walk. We kept to the shady paths and went for a little paddle in the stream. In the first photo she was hiding behind my leg. She sticks close to you when walking but still enjoys stopping to sniff and explore a little. She is delightful.

We have been spending some time with Poppy over the last week and she really is a true delight. A gentle girl Poppy loves people and is always pleased to see you.

Poppy is house trained and walks well on the lead, she can be strong but it is general excitement at being out and she soon settles in to her stride and is very connected with her walkers, stopping periodically to look back and make sure you are all still there.

Poppy loves nothing more than sitting next to you on the sofa or exploring the garden and has taken to lying on the bed during the day watching the comings and goings out of the window.

Poppy would make anyone a wonderful companion and they would be very lucky to have such a lovely affectionate girl. We certainly consider it a privilege to get to share our home with her for a bit love4.gif

We are continuing to love having Poppy with us during these interesting times and seeing her character come out.

Poppy loves her people, once she knows you she will sit on your lap, enjoy cuddles and follow you around the house. She can be wary of strangers coming in and will bark until they carefully introduce themselves and she can give them a good sniff on her terms. Sudden movements can make her retreat particularly when she doesn’t know people and can be a bit timid at times.

She likes to play especially with bigger footballs and will happily chase them, throw them in air and play a bit of football. She enjoys jumping up on the trampoline with the girls and laying down in the sun.

Like other Sharpei’s we have had before she is especially fond of sniffing, scent marking and digging up the ground once she has done this so best not to stand behind or you will be covered in mud roflmao.gif

Poppy is a real delight to be around and a special girl who is growing on confidence everyday.

Poppy continues to keep us company during these strange times and is a very welcome house guest. We have settled in to a routine of a walk before work and home schooling and another in the evening which she really enjoys.

When she first gets out she can be strong on the lead but settles nicely in to a rhythm once you get going stopping frequently to scent mark, dig up the grass and have a sniff.

Poppy is very responsive to her name and will come in from the garden or wherever she is in the house to see what you want. She is at her happiest having a cuddle or sitting next to you on the sofa getting lots of attention.

Where everyone has been socially distancing she has not had as much contact with other dogs so would be worth introducing her slowly again so she is comfortable meeting them, particularly off lead ones that can come bounding up.

Poppy is such a lovely girl, good with my girls 11 and 9 and friendly with others once introduced and she has had the chance to give you a good sniff :) She enjoys playing in the garden with balls and her new squeaky bone, she was also quite taken with Crufts on the tv this evening which was quite amusing roflmao.gif

She is a beautiful girl! We lost our beautiful Daisy earlier this year. She had very similar traits to Poppy, enjoying sniffing and cuddling on the sofa.... She also threw dust and grass in the air after a wee, so we had to watch out! 😂 She didn't like walking on wet/damp grass, daft girl.
Poppy will make a new family very happy. Good luck Poppy ❤️🌺
