Scampi Patterdale x DofB 2007 - March 2019

Sad news to report that Scampy, who we acquired from you 10 years ago, was put to sleep this week. His normal crazy, excitable self (yes, still after all this time) was suddenly replaced by strange behaviours- heavy sleeping followed by long bouts of aimless pacing about. After blood tests, the vet suggested liver supplements. A scan showed a slight "blob" on the liver and spleen, but it seems dementia was responsible. He was really distressed in his last few days, and we took the really hard decision of euthanasia Stan & Jackie

Scampy's Story: March 2009:
Scampy is about 2 yrs old, and rather like a ‘black’ Irish Terrier if there was such a thing or a giant Patterdale. He has such a lovely temperament and so pleasing to be with; eager to please. He has just been neutered, chipped and vax’d. Coping ‘OK’ with kennel life but oh to run and play. He has that lively energy of an irish and we are looking for a home that is confident to manage a large terrier.
Scampy would benefit from training and exploring his needs. We do not know how he will be in a domestic situation as we haven’t a foster place. So homing would commence as ‘foster-with-the-view-to-homing. If Scampy was in a rescue centre they all would queue up for him but again you really have to be able to manage a terrier of this size with a kind firm approach to ensure he isn’t living for top dog spot..which he will naturally command on charisma alone! Has us swooning

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Scampy's progress through our Rescue is below.
We work with our dogs, who often reveal a different picture and positive skills as they build trust.
