hello everyone after a week with the gorgeous deacon we thought we would update his thread.
well what can I say he is a brilliant dog and has really come out of his shell.
he is toilet trained and he has had no accidents in the house and walks fab on a lead to heal always checking your still there. he sleeps all night in his bed in our room and has learnt the rules of not on beds or sofas although if he can he will still try and get away with it lol. he must of had some training as he knows sit and has just learnt 'wait' when we get to a road. he is fine with other dogs that we have met. the cat and him are not that brilliant together though, Deacon just wants to chase him if he moves so the cat tends to avoid him. the cat has the run of the house at night with deacon in our room, during the day Deacon is not allowed upstairs this seems to be working. overall we are so pleased with him he is so loving and is happiest when he is having cuddles and fuss. when he is left he barks a couple of times and then seems to settle in his bed.
The only issue we have is that he trys to puppy bite alot this is in no way aggresive he just trys to use his mouth alot which makes our children nervous, when he does it we tell him no and push him away, it is getting better but is something we are watching. he also stands and barks at you if he gets told no when he is a bit more excited like a stroppy teenager backchatting lol. so if anyone has any suggestions on how to stop those two things we would really appreciate it.
overall we are completly in love with Deacon he is a very special dog and the children adore him so heres to him getting even better in the next week . xx

The best thing to do when a dog starts to back chat you is very calmly take the dog out of the room you are in and make him stay on his own for at least five minutes.
The worst punishment you can give a dog is to take him out of his 'pack' (you and your family). He is at the moment standing his ground with you and stomping his feet if you like.
Let him in after five minutes and if he does it again then repeat. It seems bizarre, but it is something that works for many different issues. However, it is important that you do this EVERY TIME it happens as continuity is important when training.

Also, if he mouths you tell him 'No!', everyone get up and walk away. The game is over. After a bit of time he will associate biting with the end of play and will learn to mind his manners.

Sorry about the cat. :( Unfortunately it is very hard to cat test as we cannot risk letting the cats out amongst the dogs in case anything were to happen.

Deacon seems to be starting to fit in with family life, he is a pleasure around the house and on walks.
He is still trying to challenge when he thinks he can get away with it, however I think we are starting to recognise the signs and are able to nip it in the bud. We are all growing in confidence and ordering the pack accordingly.
Hopefully he will continue to learn the rules and enjoy family life, we all love him to bits and are enjoying the addition to our family.
