Will always remember Stanley as he was one of the first few dogs that we met when we started walking. So glad he has such a lovely home, big hug to him please.

Dearly loved Stanley he spent too long with us but had a great time with Marie and Lee. He was loved by many but his family stepped forwards and are magical. He looks so settled ... forever in your debt

Stan the Man 5th Gotcha Day
Where has the time gone??? Is it really 5 years since we met the wonderful Lynne on a snowy, cold morning & brought home this cuddle monster
Since our last post Stan has had a very traumatic time, at the end of November he went for his usual morning walk, came home & had a little breakfast and then during the morning was sick 8 times bringing up bright yellow bile. By the time we got him into the vets at 6 pm he'd been sick 4 more times & was a very sorry pooch. He stayed in the vets for 2 nights having numerous tests without any conclusion. Wasn't sick again or had an upset tummy, responded to painkillers. He was home 1 day then at 2.30am his temperature was sky high - back to the vets who kept him in another 2 nights running more tests. Antibiotics & painkillers administered but the vet on duty on the day he was due to come home decided that she was not happy & after discussing with us got Stan referred to Queen Mother Royal Veterinary College just outside Potters Bar. We collected him from the vets, shot up to RVC & he was admitted. By the next morning they had found out the problem with a CT scan - he had a huge gall stone which had been getting larger over the years & it had lodged in his bile duct and ruptured his gall bladder & bile duct & he also now had septic peritonitis !! Only a 50/50 chance of survival with an immediate op - so we gave permission & he was operated on that evening, the vet calling me at 12.30am to tell me it had been successful. Poor Stanley the past six months he'd slowed down, occasionally wouldn't eat & was sick more than usual & we just assumed he was getting old but it was that horrid gall stone. The vet who phoned to ask for permission was ecstatic when I said yes, the staff had already fallen in love with him & were keeping their fingers crossed for him that we would say yes. I said how could anyone not give the boy a chance as he'd gone through so much, had only been shown love & kindness by RR and us so we to help him. She was so very happy.
Suffice to say tough as old boots Stan the Man sailed through his 6 week convalescence & is now bursting with energy. He's got his super waggy tail back & a happy Staffie smile. He's only ever been to the vets for booster injections each year & then he was then in at 2 different vets for 2 weeks & he behaved perfectly. He had to go back to our vets 3 times as he'd been stapled from top to bottom along his tummy & they'd missed a line & then a single one - but Stan loved all the attention, what a difference from a dog when we first got him a vet refused to look at him as he thought he looked vicious - we changed vets!!! Having nearly lost Stan it has made us realise how integral he is to us as a family & we are thankful we had insurance to pay a small portion of the vets bills. We hope that our next post will be back in Suffolk in October with a super happy Stanley, enjoying the beach again.
It's cured his horrendous bad breath but we now have smelly wind instead !!! He still has problems being sick after drinking water but with smaller amounts of water more often & teaching him to come to one of us & we 'burp' him like a baby, so that's only occurring occasionally. Thank goodness we had invested time & money in being members of Southend Dog Training as it gave Stan the chance to shine at the vets with his obedience, we didn't have one negative comment on his behaviour other than that he grumbled after being touched on his paws or tummy after 20 minutes !! Weird that it was the paws again as he's been fine with us over the past couple of years with us touching his legs & paws.
Thank you Lynne for seeing our potential to give Stan the home he needed & thank you to all you lovely volunteer walkers & care givers, worth your weight in gold to save so many dogs who would be destroyed.
