Having heard such glowing reports about our new arrival Dougal, it was only appropriate to get to take this handsome little chap for an outing at the first available opportunity. Collecting Dougal from the paddock (extremely easy to leash up), it was off with Luna to Horley to explore the tracks on a sunny Sunday. Impressions of Dougal:
  • So friendly - he was fantastic natured from the moment of walking into the paddock and no bribery needed to get him off and running
  • Not dog reactive - he was very calm around Luna and showed no sign of wanting to get up close
  • Can be handled - at one point we had runners in close proximity and I was able to scoop Dougal up with no growling or fidgeting. He seemed happy for the cuddle TBH
  • Very keen on all things furry and (not always) small - any scuttling of squirrels and birds saw Dougal go into stalking mode. However this is extremely manageable and he only really got properly activated when he saw the donkeys
Dougal is just an excellent dog and it was a great couple of hours spent with him in the woods. For those looking for a dog with a decent level of energy, that isn't averse to a pat and stroke (on his terms) and just rubs along well in a group, then this fine character is a definite one for considering. My only disappointment is that Dougal is such a superstar, he'll likely be gone in double-quick time, meaning that walks with him will be hard to come by!

Dougal was honoured to be included in Bruno's Reformed Walkers Club pack today, joining his fellow Black Patterdale Posse member on an outing over to Smallfield. "Brugal" as they shall now be known hit it off instantly and were very complimentary walking pals, both for pace and for temperament. Over we went along the bridle path and then up towards Perrylands Lane. At this point Dougal, and more so Bruno, were accosted by an off leash Dachshund and it was pleasing to see neither react despite provocation. We then headed round the village where the lads enjoyed some time relaxing on Smallfield Playing Field before heading over the motorway bridge and back through the woods.

Throughout the walk Dougal was brilliantly behaved, walked well and was happy to have the affection that came his way from two very smitten walkers! He really is a fantastic dog and loves his treats. Picking him up and carrying him back to his kennel, thoughts turned to the next week and Dougs is definitely on the "must walk" list now. Hopefully though that won't be for too long, as this cracker of a Pattie deserves his own couch and human companions.

Dougal came in 2 days from the front of the month...and said goodbye to us 2 days from the end of the month.

Very happy to go and join Colin as Colin's life companion. Dougal is Colin's second rescue Patterdale and his friends are going to be very confused as Dougal is a dead ringer of his previous boy.

colin came to the kennels today to look at patties and focused on Dougal & Rolo and a difficult choice was settled in the end by dougal's totally relaxed style of walking and amazing similarities to his last Pattie - always nice to home a dog to an owner who has real experience of the breed - enjoy a happy life colin with star dog dougal

He looks a very contented chap Colin, particularly with his Kong! Thanks for taking him and I hope the two of you have a great time having adventures in the future. Looking forward to hearing how he goes.
