Winston is terrierrescue's Terrier of the Month for July
Winston's Story : Winston came in to a Rescue Centre with a Jackchi early 2017. They were homed separately Winston in with a family who had never owned a dog or terrier before. Winston had never been socialised outside and proved very difficult to manage. The family kept him over winter to avoid cold kennel situation and surrendered him to terrierrescue / rescueremedies when a space came up. Winston is neutered; chipped and fully vaccinated. Winston was now in boarding kennels near Gatwick
PLEASE NOTE: Dog laws have changed with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces, and manage and support encounters so as not to place dog's lives at risk, (Destruction or Control Orders are common place nowadays).
***PLEASE HELP OUR LONG STAY DOGS: Our min. adoption donation £175, which supports our work and Is non returnable. We will offer an alternative dog should our dog not settle given adequate time and reassurance. Rescue Remedies offers their dogs back up for life and exist on the goodwill of our supporters and volunteers.
Please click for Winston's thread for regular updates, new pictures and videos. To apply to home a dog, you must be ready within 7 days and complete a homing questionnaire submitted Online We work fast to secure our dogs their loving homes and can be talking to up to 10 families at any one time. Please remain open: We have the dogs we have. Our dogs need a supportive family to offer patience, time & tolerance to allow them to settle.
Winston's progress through our Rescue below
Original Referral information : We work with our dogs & often reveal a different picture & positive skills as they build trust. We were asked to help Winston as he was homed over a year ago and never been walked before. He proved overwhelmed in a high dog density and low dog density situation ...reactive on sight of another dog and difficult to control. A model dog within the home
We agreed to take Winston in and begin to work with him to desensitise him and find him a terrier home.

Re: Winston 'Working Lakeland' DofB 01.10.14 Gatwick Kenns
Wow - my first walk with Winston today and what a pleasure it was. He greeted me as if we were old friends (the sausage in my pocket helped a bit) and, once the leads were on, off we set. I had been warned that Winston pulled a bit and that he was not good with other dogs. Well, forewarned is forearmed - Winston gets very excited and barks a lot when he sees another dog. This will need some working on but he is an intelligent little chap and I feel will learn. He did pull a tiny bit but not a lot and was generally speaking easy to manage on the walk. He is a great little chap - very lovable and cuddly - and very keen to get out into the great outside to burn up some energy. He enjoyed a fast pace, sniffs and the sight of squirrels - all in all, a lovely boy and I look forward to walking him again next week.

Brilliant photos, thank you Sarah. What you see is what you get with Winston. I have only walked him twice but I don't think there are any hidden depth! He is an exuberant, enthusiastic, friendly little lad. He loves his walks and can't wait to leave his pen and get into the great outdoors. He walks fast and enjoys every minute. He is somewhat reactive when he meets another dog and this needs to be worked on. A lovely lad who would benefit from being homed quickly by the right person.

I walked Winston for the first time today. He was keen to get going - not helped by the cat at the kennels that caused great excitement! He settled quickly and we stopped for a sit in the shade where he enjoyed some sausages. He's very polite and takes his treats gently. He ignored the cyclists we met and wasn't bothered by a large rattling van that passed us. We didn't meet any dogs and only had a very short walk. Hopefully we'll be able to go further next time
