Well life by the sea continues to be a joy but Bells has been unlucky again. She has been bumping into stuff of late which was most noticeable when we went to my Mums so fearing cataracts went off to vets and from there onto an ophthalmic specialist at the Ralph in Marlow (who we'd used before for another eye issue). After a review and a procedure under anaesthetic they advised Bells had S.A.R.D.S Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome for which there is no treatment and equally for which currently there is no known cause although its thought to relate to the immune system. Hasnt really impacted Bells hugely as she knows how to move about the house can guess where our hands are for her treats and generally continues to be a happy and contented soul and hopefully will do for many a year yet.
Apparently SARDS mostly (70%) occurs in female dogs and is most common in dachshunds, Bells was just unlucky. Best to all at the Rescue with a particular shout out to Lynne.

So sorry to hear about Bella. She is such a lovely dog & was so helpful in socialising Lucy. Thank goodness she has you two who I know will give her all the love & care she needs. Hope you are both ok & happily settled in Sutton.

Merry Christmas to all at RR in particular to Lynne and the Homing team who seem to have had a time of it. Bella is well and the fruits of 8 years of training by the dog have stood by us now Bella has lost her sight. I think Bella would view the 8 years of training she has required of us to have been time well spent as we now know what to supply when.
For those of you who have not managed a blind dog it really isnt a huge demand upon you they will want/like regular routes so they know where they are and you have to be attentive so they dont walk off a curb or something and new places means a lot of bumping into stuff so again caution is needed.
Overall though Bella is still enjoying life and we wouldnt be without her.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXZXZ

Its with a very heavy heart that we have to say that Bella left us today. She had renal failure and with the option of a fairly quick and undignified passing our local vets kindly came to visit and she drifted off between us. She was the very best of dogs loyal loving good natured tolerant and great company, an exemplar of both the breed and rescue dogs, she leaves a massive hole and calling the vets was the hardest thing we have ever done.
We remain grateful to RR for the work they do that allows lucky souls like us to have a dog like Bella and we are particularly grateful to Lynne as she selected Bella for us to see and ultimately for Bella to choose us as her parents.
