HOW TO POST PHOTOS ON THE FORUM

Post by Rescue Remedies_2 »

HOW TO POST A PHOTO ONTO A DOG’S FORUM PAGE FROM AN IPHONE, ANDROID PHONE, PC OR APPLE MAC

A) IPHONE OR ANDROID PHONE

STEP 1
First you need to reduce your photo size to 640x480 (or 480x640)- recommended for forum posting or you will get an error message.
a) You can do this by emailing the photograph to yourself and you will be given the option to change the size to small. Then save the new smaller photo to use for the forum.
b) Alternatively, if using an Iphone or Ipad go to the App Store and download the free ImageSize App. From an android phone go to Google Play (Play Store) and download the ImageSize App.
This means you can resize the photos to 640 x 480 or 480x 640, which will be accepted. It is straightforward to use.

STEP 2
After you have written the post, select the ‘attachments’ tab underneath your post and click ‘add files’ to select and upload the photos you wish to add. Click on the part of the post you wish your photo to appear and click the ‘Place Inline’ button underneath each photo file for your photo to appear correctly without the white border.

B) PC

STEP 1
You will need to reduce the size of your photo or it will not be accepted. Find the photo you wish to share to a dog's forum page and click on it to open it, then right click on the photo with the mouse and a menu will appear. Scroll down to the resize option and select the 'M' (medium) size and save it. A photo which is 256k should be accepted. Alternatively, you can use the internet resizer:

http://webresizer.com/resizer/
and select 500k as the size.

If your photo appears sideways or upside down, try rotating it 360 degrees before posting it.

C) APPLE MAC

STEP 1
You will need to reduce the size of your photo or it will not be accepted. There are a number of ways you can do this:

A) Double click on your photo to open in Preview
Click on Tools in the top menu bar
Adjust size to 200x200
Save

B) You can email the photograph to yourself and when you press send you will be given the option to change the size to small. Then save the new smaller photo to use for the forum.

C) You can use the internet resizer

http://webresizer.com/resizer/
and select 500k as the size.

STEP 2 Some Apple Macs will position the photo sideways on the page (it may appear correct on your device but not to other people viewing on different devices).

To ensure the photo is the right way around, click on the photo and rotate your photo all the way around 360 degrees (even if it looks as if it is already the correct way around) as this seems to solve the problem of it appearing sideways. To rotate click on the square icon at the top of the photo.

STEP 3 After you have written the post, select the ‘attachments’ tab underneath your post and click ‘add files’ to select and upload the photos. Click on the part of the post you wish your photo to appear and then click the ‘Place Inline’ button underneath each photo file for your photo to appear correctly without the white border.

Here is a video explaining how to upload a photo (but don’t forget to click the ‘place inline‘ button after uploading your photo).

Resizing photo files for use on the forum

Post by paul.buckle »

Personally (whether a PC or Mac user) I'd suggest the online tool at imageresizer.com is the simplest way to create photo files suitable for the forum.

(The tool referenced above does the job but, without tweaking the settings, will do so by drastically reducing the image size and quality.)

The forum software limits the attachment file size to 500KB. Modern digital cameras and mobile phone cameras generate file sizes many multiples larger than this, so practically every image file you wish to use is going to need to be reduced in size first.

A quick overview on using this tool:

1) Go to imageresizer.com.

2) Drag and drop the required image file onto the dotted, grey box or click "+ Select Image" to locate and select it.

3) Ignore the "Resize Image" options (these are for changing the image size, not the file size).

4) Enter "500" in the "Save Options \ Target File Size in KB" field and click "Resize Image Now".

5) When the processing has completed, click "Download Image" to download the resized file.

6) The downloaded file is now a suitable size to be attached to a forum post!
