Tommie's Story: Tommie grew up with children but didn't cope and resorted to protecting his space and nipped his groomer handling him. Tommie has jumped 3 homes where he has not been given respect to settle. One returned him after the first journey home as he was barking and they became afraid; he was easy to manage on collection. Since then Tommie has since been muzzle trained which he wears for the groomer and on journeys. Tommie has bitten in Tommie;s mind for rough handling...when his collar has been grabbed, a kong was taken from him, shouted at to get off the sofa. Tommie needs a child free family who accept him and manage him as terrier people do, on equal terms and through living negotiation, distraction and substitution. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Tommie is neutered, chipped, and fully vaccinated. Tommie is in boarding kennels near Gatwick whilst awaiting his new family.

If interested in rehoming one of our dogs, the first step is to complete and submit our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. We do not discuss dogs without a homing questionnaire submission. You must be ready and sadly due to unprecedented interest, we will only be able to contact you if we have a suitable dog. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £200. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

Tommie’s story makes me feel so sad as it’s so similar to our 9 year old Welshie Bob whom we adopted aged 2. At least we were only his second home but there had been similar issues with children, possible rough handling and owners just not understanding the nature of a Welsh Terrier. We had had various terriers in the past including an Airedale so we liked to think of ourselves as “terrier people”. But understanding and working through things with Bob has been one big learning curve but at the end of the day he’s the funniest, cheekiest and most loving dog we have ever had. A real character.

We would so love to give Tommie a home but it just wouldn’t be fair as, since our golden retriever died nearly three years ago, Bob has very much become the top dog and we are not sure how he would tolerate a newcomer - especially another male. I do hope Tommie soon finds his forever home.

very much

So sorry to see Tommie looking for another home. Hopefully this time it will be forever! Welsh Terriers are one of, if not ‘the’, most feisty of the terrier breeds and need a lot of patience and consistency, especially in their early years, but usually throughout their life. They are the most wonderful, but often frustrating, of companions! As a breed they share many traits but each dog is unique. Each of my Welsh terriers were different - one hardly barked and loved to sleep on the back of the sofa, resting on the radiator! One never barked and liked to sleep on the sofa, and my last barked all the time and wanted to sleep on the bed, preferably on top of lots of pillows! Some are good with recall, some not at all (my Lily had no real recall at all, Spike was best but not perfect), some like to chase a ball, some are born sniffers, some just like to lay in the sun…. It’s wonderful to share your life with a Welsh Terrier! Good luck Tommie, the right home is out there for you!

Beautiful little dog full of character and zest for life. We went out today with fell terrier Jinx and Patterdale Cosmo and Tommie had fun and enjoyed their company. He loves to sniff and so sniff he did. Great little dog and so handsome.

Totally agree he is gorgeous and friendly. I was part of the entourage of Tommie, Jinx and Cosmo all who behaved brilliantly and looked spectacular. Could not resist taking a photo of Tommie in the water.

I have had the pleasure of taking Tommie out twice now and what a great little character he is!
He's such a sweet boy and loves to be out on his walks exploring! I really enjoy spending time with him 🤗

Laura your photos are amazing. You have really shown what a scrumptious little terrier Tommie is. Today we enjoyed a walk with Lynda and Cosmo and it was great. He does like to have a sniff and so enjoys the company of other dogs on his walks. love4.gif
