Re: Louie Patterdale DofB 01.07.10 Aldershot Surrey Foster
Another great week with Louie
During last week, I had to pick my car up from in town and I decided walk down with Louie. Its a 20min walk and on the streets with people about. I'm pleased to say that Louie did amazing, during the entire walk and passing a fair few people he didn't lunge or bark once!
I have found that generally its on the street walks Louie gets nervous and is more likely to attempt lunge, so this was a massive achievement but we still have "off days", his change in how he reacts will not change over night.
So this weekend I had a festival to go in London and I had arranged my dog walker to dog sit Louie in the evening until I came home around 1am. So he had his afternoon walk and then hung out with Pepe in the evening (my dog walker brought her dog Pepe with her when she came to dog sit) seems they are best mates and they shared her lap with cuddling next each other.
NOTE: Louie ONLY has the muzzle off when there is no one around. I have concluded that Louie is not dog reactive as a general rule. He only needs the muzzle when its busy with humans but this is definitely getting better from when I first started fostering him!!
The following day, a friend came over (one that he hasn't met before) and he took to her, bless him........He tried towel hogging. He is getting more comfortable with my friends popping over but I still take him to open the door (with a lead on) to greet them at the door with me. I find he copes with this better as he can see the person coming in the house.
His week day walks with my dog walker, he loves being around the dogs and we have ensured that the dogs he is with on the walk are of a the calmer nature and not "crazy" :)

Updated star review since APR assessment:
In the Car:
In Doors:
Left Alone:
In Doors - With Outdoor Noise Reactive: this makes for a Great little guard dog If you don't want a dog that barks at noises, then Louie is NOT the dog for you.
House Training:
Food:
Outdoors: -. Can still be a little nervous out and this can lead to lunging when he's unsure with passers by, joggers and bikes but this has reduced ALOT!
Walking Ease:
Exercise Requirement: - Being an older chap, Louie doesn't need a huge amounts of exercise but he does love his walks!
Confidence: - this needs to grow and with time and trust... it will
Escape Artist: - I think due to his reduced confidence he doesn't dart for the open front door.
Affectionate:
Playful: - loves to play ball and rumble but doesn't need constant entertainment. He loves to rumble :)
Cuddles / Handling:
Sleeping:
Bathing / Brushing:
Live with Other dogs: I believe Louie could live with another dog (compatibility tested of course)
Live with Small Children:
Live with Small Furries:
Home Visitors: - He is getting better but he still seems more nervous toward men however I don't believe he has a "men issue"..
"MUSTS" for Lou Lou forever home:
- A calm home
- NOT to live in a super busy area
- No small kids
- No furries (cats, rabbits etc)
- Will keep him on lead
- Will continue with his confidence and working with him so he can trust you
- Is OK with a dog that barks at outside noises.
He is such a darling little chap, I have really grown fond of him and he will do the same to you!!! He's definitely coming out of his shell and his little traits, like staring at me and grumbling when I'm not playing and he wants to
Love ya Lou Lou x

Leah, you’ve been amazing support for little Louie! Thank you for everything you’re doing to help him feel secure and loved
Re: Louie Patterdale DofB 01.07.10 Aldershot Surrey Foster
Lou Lou is doing great, there's still some way to go yet with confidence and anxiety in public spaces (more so with humans as he likes dogs) but I make sure he gets public exposure to help him but generally I tend to walk him in less human density areas and out of peak times.
He loves his walks with "Aunty Fleur" and his little crew of friends he has, the feedback from Fleur is that he is an amazing little dog that loves his walks and socialising with his paw mates.
God, you just gotta love this little dude, everyone that meets him (after the initial grumbles from Louie) say he's so lovely and he is!
Re: Louie Patterdale DofB 01.07.10 Aldershot Surrey Foster
This weekend Lou Lou was very vocal, chatting and doing grizzly and singing to me.... He cracks me up! He's so cheeky with his little voice. His little grizzly is when he wants to play or rumble and I don't part take ... Or just to have a little chat
"MUSTS" for Lou Lou forever home:
- A calm home
- NOT to live in a super busy area
- No small kids
- No furries (cats, rabbits etc)
- Will keep him on lead. Louie will dart off after a furry. Also due to his anxiety to strangers (lunge tenancies) A long line lead is perfect for him, gives him space to run while being attached to me which allows to control distance when needed.
- Will continue with his confidence and working with him so he can trust you
- are OK with a dog that barks at outside noises.

Foster Update.
So my last post was 23 JUN and other than some images and videos, there is not much to update on Louie. He is doing great in foster, slowly I'm seeing improvements with his confidence in the home (scampers away less with noises or bangs). I am still seeing anxiety in him in public spaces with strangers where he tends to lunge at people however he is dog friendly! With this trait in him, this is why he MUST wear a muzzle in public where there is potential for him to lunge. So please refer to my previous posts for an overview on Louie in my home in foster care.
He is such a super affectionate little chap but he is also ok in his space, he's not emotionally needy.
He loves rumbles in the morning and its his little face that I see when I wake up each morning. He is such a good sleeper, he sleeps on my bed and doesn't fuss during the night. He loves to sniff out squirrels and rabbit holes when we are walking.
And he also loves to chill in the sun but not for too long as he finds the sun too hot (being black). He likes to play ball but he is not great at bringing it back
