Tara's Story: Tara's owner eventually allowed Social Services to take Tara into care, as she was being neglected and kept in one room due to her owner's mental health problems. Tara was never walked and was fearful. After coming out of her home, she was in kennels for 18 months; her owner then signed her ownership over to rescue. Tara needed an urgent placement or she was going be put to sleep, so Rescue Remedies offered a rescue place, saving her life.

We have twice homed Tara briefly, however Tara needs a patient family that will support her while she continues to gain self-confidence. Tara will need understanding and time to gain the skills she needs to free her from the neglect she suffered in her past. Tara is neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated. Tara was in kennels near Gatwick whilst she awaited her new home.

If you are interested in rehoming one of our dogs, please complete our ONLINE HOMING QUESTIONNAIRE. It is always the first step in our rehoming process. Upon application, you must be ready to take in your new dog within seven days. For more detailed information, please see our Homing Process.

Please support our work and help our long stay dogs: Our minimum adoption donation is £175. This supports our continuing rescue work and is non-refundable. We exist solely due to the goodwill and donations of our supporters and volunteers. Our dogs need supportive families who will offer them patience, time and tolerance whilst they settle in their new homes. Our Rescue offers all our dogs back-up for life.

Please note: Dog laws have changed, with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to keep their dog on a lead in public spaces and manage and support its encounters with new dogs and people, so as not to place the dog's life at risk. Destruction and Control Orders are commonplace nowadays.

I met Tara today and what a worried little sweetheart she is. I sat in her kennel for a while, giving her time to get used to me and make friends. Offering treats helped a lot. thumbs.gif Tara already had a lead attached to her harness and as she was a little worried about me attaching a new lead I took her out with that one. She was keen to get out and about, and once out she was more than happy for me to swap leads. Tara enjoyed a walk around the woods and especially loved the long grass. Her nerves show as she is a little jumpy, especially if you move your hand too quickly but she was keen to investigate what was in my treat bag when I sat down and also reached up to give me little kisses on my chin. She was happy to be stroked and cuddled gently, the trick being not to make any sudden movement and just go gently and she starts to trust and enjoy company. You can see the worry in her eyes in some of the photos but in others you can see the connection and trust she had with me.

Oh what a heartbreaker! I sat in Tara's kennel for a bit, but it didn't take long to make friends and she soon plonked herself on my lap. We than had a great walk in the woods. She wasn't nervous at all and walked beautifully on a loose lead. I then let her have an amble in the paddock. Tara is enjoying sniffing and investigating everywhere, bless her. We then spent some time at the front of the kennels where she met lots of different people. She is shy to a hand that comes out to her, then when she's sniffed you, she's your mate. She is very soft and snuggly. Lots of other dogs passed by her and she had no reaction at all to any of them. She seems very calm and placid to me. One thing I'm not sure of, and that's her hearing. She was very responsive to my presence but not my voice. It was hard to tell, as she was so interested in everything going on around her. All in all, I thought she was lovely and very laid back.

(Since returned)

Tara showed how far she has come from a nervous girl to one who is charming and affectionate and able to spot two loving ladies at fifty paces!! Having lost Nellie last year, they were ready to open their hearts and homes again. Tara will be much loved and treasured, be happy all three of you!!

Tara comes back to us on the 10th November 2018. She still carries nerves and needs a less demanding home situation.

I had the pleasure of walking Tara yesterday. Although she was initially wary of me as I entered her kennel, Tara very quickly made friends once she knew that I had sausages! Very keen to go out for a walk and leave the kennel environment behind. Tara is very easy to walk and takes no notice of traffic or other dogs. She has an air of sadness about her and at this present time seems uncertain as to what is expected of her. I took her to the Poets Hut after our walk so that she could relax. Tara enjoyed sitting on the sofa and looking out of the window. I kept talking to her and reassuring her as she allowed me to stroke her gently. A beautiful soul who needs lots of love right now. You are in the right place for lots of TLC sweetheart love4.gif xx

What a little sweetheart. Didn't see any sign of nerves just a lovely gentle girl. We had a good walk, passing other dogs with no reaction/interest and then a lovely cuddle back in her kennel. Such a sweetie. angel13.gif]

Tara is a poppet. Slightly nervous when i went in to her kennel but we became friends over a treat or two. She walks beautifully, stopping to say hello to Maxy through the paddock fence.....it wasn’t much of a hello more of a look but she certainly didn’t react negatively to him. She does seem a little frightened but this just added to her charm - I wanted to scoop her up and take her home. She was much more confident when I chatted to her, telling her what a good girl she was being. When I got my phone out to take a pic of her, she came so close my lense steamed up!! Tara really is a sweet little girl who just needs reassurance and a few friendly cuddles to help her relax. Xx

I had the pleasure of waking Tara again this week after not having seen her for two weeks and the difference in her was amazing. She wasn’t nervous when I entered her kennel and had her tail up and wagging. She was keen to get out and is so easy to walk. She enjoys lots of sniffing and is totally relaxed passing other dogs and even horses. She is a warm gentle soul who so deserves to be living with a lovely family who will give her the love she so desperately deserves. In the meantime I look forward to enjoying our walks together. I really do pray she finds her forever home soon. love4.gif
