Current Status: Retained by owners
Rigby's Story : Saved from an overwhelming & abusive situation, Rigby's owner now finds he is having to leave Rigby for very long hours and can't offer him a routine. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Rigby is neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated. Rigby is now on our books but is retained by his adoring owner until a home is found.
PLEASE NOTE: Dog laws have changed with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces, and manage and support encounters so as not to place dog's lives at risk, (Destruction or Control Orders are common place nowadays).
***PLEASE HELP OUR LONG STAY DOGS: Our min. adoption donation £175, which supports our work and Is non returnable. We will offer an alternative dog should our dog not settle given adequate time and reassurance. Rescue Remedies offers their dogs back up for life and exist on the goodwill of our supporters and volunteers.
Please click for Rigby's thread for regular updates, new pictures and videos. To apply to home a dog, you must be ready within 7 days and complete a homing questionnaire submitted Online We work fast to secure our dogs their loving homes and can be talking to up to 10 families at any one time. Please remain open: We have the dogs we have. Our dogs need a supportive family to offer patience, time & tolerance to allow them to settle.

July 2017: "I took Rigby on a few years ago after walking him for 6months. He lived in an abusive home with three young kids, they used to terrorise him.
Growling and barking and hitting at him, one of the kids even bit him while I was babysitting, he squealed but I think that he ran away, I can't fully remember. Because of this and the fact that that he's jumped at kids when on walks, I wouldn't recommend that he's homed with kids.
The reason I had to take him was because of the previous owner (PO):
Tried to stud him - I stopped her doing it.
Pretty much forced her to get him neutered.
Repeatedly tried selling g him online - stopped her as she was getting calls from "security companies" wanting an aggressive dog and blatant dog fighters.
She also had him caged pretty much 24/7.
The kids used to bully him even while he was caged.
The PO made him stop growling, so I had to teach him how to growl again. So that I have a warning before he reacts to things.
Then the last straw was a semi serious incident where I was getting him ready to go out and as such he was very excited and needing to get out ASAP. The PO had a lot of friends over and for some reason, they all came I to the tiny kitchen where riggs and I were. One of the friends stepped back stepping on him and so he reacted by nipping her calf. Causing a mark but no blood. Everyone started screaming at me and telling me to "get that fff dog out of this fff house" I then had to shout back as I had a group shouting at me all at once to make them move out of my way. By now, Rigby was very scared and we finally managed to get outside where he slowly walked up to me as if I was going to punish him, I calmed him down and we just went on a walk as normal - I then immediately texted the PO and said "He can move in tonight if you don't want him" . Her reply was "ok."
The above is one reasons why I need to rehome him, because 2 years ago my circumstances were very different to how they are now and I wasn't really thinking, but also felt like I was his only way out of that place.
But the main reasons why are because I don't have regular work hours but the hours that I do have are sometimes extremely unfair to him. Sometimes I'm out for 22 hours. This is just not fair at all, but I can't turn down work as it's not all the time. My regular hours are Fridays and Saturdays when I'm usually out for 8 hours (including travel time) As you can see I'm sort of forced to take the crazy shifts as my regular money is very, very low.
Also, the flat I used to live in was large. Now I'm in a tiny bedsit as it's all I can afford and it's council.
He is quite often not clean while I'm out (pee and poop) even if it's just a pop to the shops for 10mins as he has no routine.
(he has got better since I've managed to get him a dog walker)
He isnt comfortable around dogs and also is reactive to strangers sometimes, giving a warning bark to them to scare them away.
I have been trying to find the right place for him for a very long time, over two years... But I am very attached to him and vice versa, but the way that I'm out for many hours while working.
There's a lot of reasons why I need help with him but above is all that I can currently think of, direct questions would be better I think...
Unfortunately the dog walker has become quite attached to him and so I feel like I cannot tell her that I'm doing this. But I also can't keep him.. I really want to but it's selfish. My dream is that he's homed somewhere, where he can curl up with new owners cuddling on the bed and sofa but he does need careful management and care and lots of exercise.
Basically I took him to save him but I feel like I can't let go but I need to for his best interests. I just hope that there's a great home out there for him.

Re: Rigby Staffie x Shar Pei DofB 2011 Croydon
Dear, Beautiful Rigby. There is no doubt that your current owner saved you from a terrible situation and perhaps even saved your life and that of a child. What a hard situation in which to find yourself. Your present owner is doing his best for you and has your best interests at heart. There is no shame. Only love. Hopefully the right family will come forward for you very soon. I love the pigment on your tongue. It makes you even more special than you already are.

Well what a beautiful boy Rigby is. He looks like a real character!
Thank you to his current owner for rescuing him from a horrible home. You have put Rigby first then and again now and I appreciate how sad it must be for you. x
