Ralph's Story : Found stray/abandoned & unclaimed within a council pound: Tracing chip has given us quite a detailed background : Basically Ralph was kept outside unsocialised with dogs but socialised with the 6 children in the family. He was then passed on to a man and lived 7 months in a home and then passed on again for 3 months and handed in as 'stray' to the dog warden. Rescue Remedies offered a Rescue place saving his life. Ralph is neutered; chipped and vaccinations in progress. Ralph is currently in boarding kennels nr Gatwick

PLEASE NOTE: Dog laws have changed with zero public tolerance and prejudice against bull breeds and terriers. Our Rescue asks new owners to maintain dogs on lead in public spaces and manage encounters for at least 4 months until sure of their dogs instincts & skills, most of our dogs will need to be retained always on a lead, so as not to place dog's lives at risk, (Destruction or Control Orders are common place nowadays).

***PLEASE HELP OUR LONG STAY DOGS: Our min. adoption donation £175, which supports our work and Is non returnable. We will offer an alternative dog should our dog not settle given adequate time and reassurance. Rescue Remedies offers their dogs back up for life and exist on the goodwill of our supporters and volunteers.

Please click for Ralph's thread for regular updates, new pictures and videos. To apply to home a dog, you must be ready within 7 days and complete a homing questionnaire submitted Online We work fast to secure our dogs their loving homes and can be talking to up to 10 families at any one time. Please remain open: We have the dogs we have. Our dogs need a supportive family to offer patience, time & tolerance to allow them to settle.

Ralph's progress through our Rescue below
Original Referral information : We work with our dogs & often reveal a different picture & positive skills as they build trust. 04.10.17 : Hi Lynne,

Ralph, our American Bulldog. As mentioned in our phone conversation yesterday I have some background on the dog to help with rehab and rehoming.

The dog originally belonged to a family with 6 children. The dog was kennelled in the garden and from what I’ve been told it was the kids who gave him most of the attention. Sadly, the couple split up and they were no longer able to keep him so Mr Y (Person on chip) took him on and had him for 7 months. Ralph is house-trained to some extent but doesn’t seem to be able to hold it for long. Mr Y mentioned that if he went out for a couple of hours there was usually wee/poo when he got back. He also seems a bit fussy where he goes – I don’t think he likes being watched! From my conversation with Mr Y and seeing Ralph’s behaviour when I collected him, he seems very under socialised and quite reactive although Mr Y was keen to let me know that Ralph has never shown aggression or bitten but his body language to other dogs gives off the wrong impression which can lead to confrontation. He has calmed down in kennels, apparently, but will likely need an experienced owner as he is strong.

He apparently has had operations on both eyes for entropion. He was at the vets yesterday for infected eyes and is currently on eye treatment He is also on antibiotics for a few more days for bite wounds to his face which became infected. We believe that the person who “found” Ralph is the person who rehomed him from Mr Y so that would mean Ralph has had 3 homes so far that we are aware of.

If you need any further information please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards Lx
Ralph came into our care on the 10th October 17 He is twice the size you think from his photos and I think he has Akita in his genetics

I had the pleasure of walking Ralph on two separate occasions before he transferred from Chessington to Gatwick. He stole a piece of my heart this boy!

Really easy and responsive on the lead but Ralph is clearly lacking confidence in himself. I was told he could be fearful of other dogs so we took quiet routes for our walks. He was so interested in the birds and squirrels in a curious (not obsessive) way.

On our way back to kennels on our first walk, there were 2 small dogs barking behind a fence - he reacted by pulling back behind me and then lying on the ground in a submissive pose. It took some reassurance to get him back on his feet and to continue walking. But because he’s responsive on the lead, he let me lead him back to kennels.

On our second walk we didn’t come across any dogs. He was more engaged in me as his walker and even gave me a lick on the face! With reassurance from his human and increasing exposure to other dogs, this gorgeous boy will only grow in confidence and melt many more hearts love4.gif

Delighted too greet me in his kennel, just a little over amorous but walked fab once we were out and about, great on the lead, not a puller and varied his speed with me as I jogged (very slowly !!!) and walked at various times.

Ralph really is very handsome indeed love4.gif

I only had time to walk one dog this morning before heading into work so who to choose? Well Ralph is my latest crush so no major decision really! This boy gave me a wonderful greeting in his kennel - yes Sarah, a little over friendly, but he takes gentle rejection well 0002.gif]
He is a breeze to harness then out of the kennel block with not a sound. Most of the time he is ahead of you, using the full length of the leads but not totally overpowering. He was much more engaged with his surroundings and the local wildlife today - very very interested in the squirrels. If he gets slightly unsure of anything then he is back beside you, slack lead and waiting for you to tell him it's all ok.
He met Claire and Eddie with a wagging tail, he just loves the attention and he's such a gorgeous looking boy he deserves it.
Here he is showing his good side (the other side is just as good believe me), that brilliant white fur round his neck is just sooooo soft, come on forever home, you are missing out!

I just love this big lump of a dog, so easy to handle and such a cool dude to be around. We bumped into a not so friendly Labrador today which spooked him a bit but he soon settled down again and we had our usual squirrel inspection stroll. He's strong but oh so gentle, gorgeous boy blob6.gif]
